February, 2012 - Payroll Tax Cut Extended Through 2012 On Wednesday, February 22, President Obama signed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, extending the current 4.2% Social Security tax rate through December 31, 2012.

February, 2012 - 2012 Mileage Rates The IRS announces the new Standard Mileage Rates, effective January 1, 2012.

June, 2011 - IRS Increases Mileage Rate The Optional Standard Mileage Rate has been raised to 55.5 cents per mile for all business miles driven from July 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.

January, 2011 - Payroll Rate Reduction for 2011 The latest tax law that was signed on December 17, 2010 provides for a 2% payroll tax cut for employees.

2011-2012 Tax Planning Guide

Some provisions of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 extended some expiring tax breaks and expanded some others. Some of the provisions are set to expire at the end of 2011, while others will expire after 2012 unless Congress extends them again.
