Scott R. Hoyles, CPA, MBT and Daniel C. Owens, CPA Elected Principals

We are pleased to announce that Scott Hoyles and Daniel Owens have been elected to Principal.  Both work out of the St. Paul office—Hoyles in the Tax Department and Owens in the Audit & Accounting Department.

Scott Hoyles joined Olsen Thielen in 2008 and as a Tax Principal he specializes in tax preparation, tax and financial planning, closely-held businesses, small business acquisitions/sales, franchises and start-up companies.

Scott is a graduate of Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  He received his Master of Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.  He has been with Olsen Thielen for 4 years and has a total of 11 years of public accounting experience as well as 14 years of experience in the manufacturing industry as a controller.  He is responsible for providing tax services to telecommunications, manufacturing, professional service and closely-held businesses and their owners.

Scott and his wife Marcy live in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.  He enjoys spending time with his sports-oriented family which includes biking with Marcy, running with his two daughters Brittany and Katelyn and hunting and snowmobiling with his son, Tyler.

Scott is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA).

Daniel Owens joined Olsen Thielen in 2000 and as an Audit and Accounting Principal he specializes in the not-for-profit, manufacturing, wholesale/distribution and telecommunications industries, industry benchmarking and internal controls.

Daniel is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and has more than 12 years of public accounting experience.  He is responsible for providing audit and accounting services to the telecommunication, professional association, not-for-profit charity, manufacturing and distribution industries.

He lives in Lakeville, Minnesota and enjoys spending time with family and friends, cheering on the Minnesota Golden Gophers, and participating in a wide variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, gardening, hunting and downhill skiing.

Dan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA), Midwest Society of Association Executives (MSAE) and the Twin Cities Nonprofit Financial Group.  He is also an alumni volunteer and mentor at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
